Vendor Hall, door prizes, and great speakers including our keynote speaker, Dr. Oliver DeMille, author of A Thomas Jefferson Education

Oliver DeMille:
Oliver Van DeMilleis the founder and president of George Wythe College, and the author of A Thomas Jefferson Education. As a university student, Oliver went on a search for a truly great education—researching private and public universities, technical and religious schools, and corporate and international educational institutions. As a result, he took classes from a small Bible school where he worked closely with mentors and studied the Bible and the great classics in many fields. Eventually, although Coral Ridge Baptist University was not regionally accredited, he was so excited by the quality of his studies that he left a large, well-respected university to focus full time on his classical education. He earned the B.A. in Biblical Studies (May 1992), M.A. in Christian Political Science (December 1992), and Ph.D. in Religious Education (May 1994) at Coral Ridge Baptist University. He has written and spoken extensively about the traditional education system versus his intense mentored-classical experience with Coral Ridge and other non-traditional schools. After his Coral Ridge studies, he went back and completed the B.A. in International Relations with a minor in Aerospace Studies at Brigham Young University (August 1994). Oliver is a popular keynote speaker, writer and business consultant, and he is married to the former Rachel Pinegar. They have eight children.

CHOICES, DAMSELS AND DRAGONS

“The masses or the average man looks about him examines his circumstances and then sees what he can get according to them. The great people in the world decide what they want, look for the circumstances that they need to get it and when they don’t find them they make them.” –George Bernard Shaw

Over the next, twenty years there is little doubt that your generation will face challenges and will need powerful leaders to step up. In this day-long seminar for youth ages 12-18, you will learn the pivotal choices that you must make now to live up to the title “the hero generation”. It will require courage to slay dragons* and to be damsels but this generation was born for these tremendous tasks!

Amy Edwards:

Amy Edwards

Amy Edwards is the home schooling mom of three exciting kids. She has been involved in education for almost 20 years, teaching all ages. She graduated from UC San Diego with degrees in Literature and Sociology and a multi-subject teaching credential. She worked with the YMCA in an elementary after-school program and in their social services department. She developed an SAT preparation course for high school students in the AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) program. But it was not until she discovered TJEd that she felt she had truly uncovered the principles of quality education. She has home schooled her own children for 4 years and works to continually learn more about TJEd to insure they receive a quality education. She is currently working on her Masters Degree in Education from George Wythe College through the Distance Studies program. She organized the StatesMoms Society in San Diego and hosts monthly meetings to teach and discuss the basics of TJEd.

Master Dancer: Are you well-trained in Leadership Education? Are you an expert? Are you a Master? What is the difference? Have you found a Master in Leadership Education? How do you become a Master? Do you want to become a Master? Or are you happy being well-trained, or even an expert? I would like to share my experiences as a dancer with you and my epiphanies of how they relate to Leadership Education. Let’s learn together.

Teri Helms:

Terri HelmsTeri Helms is the mother of five boys, ranging in age from nineteen to six. All of her children have been home educated since birth. Obviously, since Dr. DeMille was getting his own classical education during a large span of her illustrious homeschooling career, Teri was "on her own" to develop a methodology of education that would best serve the needs of her ever-growing brood of young men! She has had many opportunities to be mentored in countless social settings by pioneers within the homeschooling movement.

Dr. Raymond Moore had a profound influence on Teri when she was fortunate enough in three different settings to be taught by him and his wife, Dorothy. She has always chosen to use classical literature as the basis for educating her boys. In the early 1990's she was taught Mona Brooks’ methods of integrating art into education at Mona's Santa Monica studio. She used the methodology based on Mona's books "Drawing with Children" and "Drawing with Teens and Adults" for years with a large group of homeschoolers in the Coachella Valley.

Five years ago, she was introduced to TJEd by a mentor through the first edition of "A Thomas Jefferson Education" book. Since then, she has read and reread TJED materials and is currently implementing them in her home. (Mostly on herself!) Teri and her husband Paul along with their two oldest boys, have attended the “Face to Face with Greatness” Seminars. They are currently working on the Pillar program book list together. She has read voraciously all of her life, and one of her greatest joys is finally seeing the fruit of all of those years of homeschooling "in the wilderness."

For seventeen years Teri used her leadership skills to train women within a direct sales business that she built to a very successful level. She obviously has no problem frequenting her local MAC counter, and realizes that it WILL be an epiphany-filled day when she can find matching sox for all five boys in one dryer load so that; on the slim chance there is a thunder shower in the Palm Springs area, they won't be caught barefoot in inclement weather! She LOVES to make people laugh and think simultaneously and will use word pictures, analogies and personal anecdotes to bring this about. Teri is anxious to share with you why she firmly believes that TJEd is the Rolls Royce of all models for educating people, and cherishes the opportunity to encourage you that if SHE can home educate SO CAN YOU! The title of her topic?- "Molding Minds while Wearing MAC Makeup!" (And she's REALLY looking forward to seeing how Dr. DeMille plans to use ANY of this for his comments!)

Angela Ward:
Angela is a homeschooling mother with five children, one of whom has Downs syndrome. She has her masters in performing arts, and has performed Shakespeare on the stage in New York and in London. She is enrolled in the doctoral program at GWC.

Karen Kindrick:

Karen KindrickKaren Kindrick started “official” homeschooling in 1984, and had 20 years experience teaching her own six children! After graduation from homeschool, her children went on to receive degrees from universities and colleges, and continue in those pursuits even now.

Shannon taught childbirth and parents classes and worked on legislation for parents rights for many years. Liam is a skilled turn around manager, senior executive in an energy industry and professional mentor for entrepreneurs. Learning with our kids, growing together and really providing a leadership education became a priority, a journey and a pleasure for our entire family.
